Marae whānau working bee's occur once a month. Each marae whānau have been allocated a month where they maintain the marae upkeep.
Typically, a range of jobs can be undertaken during a whānau working bee and can include but not restricted to the following:
Lawns and Gardens
Mowing lawns around the marae, church, urupā and road side - please dispose of lawn clippings carefully around shrubs, gardens where they can become compost to help plant growth
Trimming edges, around trees, along the river bank and around burial plots in the cemetery
Trimming flax bushes that are situated around the marae complex
Weeding gardens
Trimming under fences
Building cleaning and maintenance - External
Water blast outside walls of buildings
Clean walls and floor of the wharenui
Clean guttering of buildings
Water blast concrete
Maintenance painting of buildings
Building cleaning and maintenance - Internal
Clean ceilings and walls in kitchen
Clean walls, ceilings and floors of the chillers
Wipe down cobwebs inside all buildings
Clean stoves
Clean inside kitchen cupboards, cupboard doors (inside and outside), storage shelves and bench tops
Clean windows and window sills in wharekai, wharenui and Te Uira
Whānau please ensure you contact the marae committee info@kearoamarae.com to organise the day(s) you would like to do your working bee so that you do not clash with other bookings or events
